An Evening with Matt
the Telegraph cartoonist
Thursday 2nd May 2024 7:00pm
Matt was appointed by Max Hastings the then editor of the Telegraph back in 1988, his first cartoon in this role came the day after the newspaper was printed with a date error leading them to make a front page apology accompanied by a cartoon saying ‘I hope I have a better Thursday than I did yesterday’. Matt has delighted us ever since and will ensure we have a better Thursday on the 2nd of May.
Matt will talk about his life as a cartoonist.
He will bring a supply of books to sign if people make a donation and will also bring a cartoon original to be auctioned on the night.

An Evening with The Reverend Richard Coles
Tuesday 14th May 2024 7:00pm
Join us for a fascinating and entertaining evening with the Reverend Richard Coles.
In true Court Garden style we will start with a glass of Classic Cuvée; before listening to a man who moved from choir boy to ’80s pop star, from Top of the Pops to Church of England priest, then radio broadcaster, television presenter and best-selling author. There is hardly a show he has not appeared in; he was even a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
Don’t miss this chance to help us raise more funds for the Royal Marsden cancer charity.
Delicious finger food will be served during the interval in the marquee (included in the ticket price), where there will be a cash bar available.
Price per person £45
Please note: actual tickets are no longer sent, but you will receive an email confirming your booking and your name will be on a list on the door.
A Classic Bordeaux Evening
A Charity Wine Dinner at Court Garden
Thursday 20th June 2024 6:00pm
Last September we held a very special wine dinner with the opportunity to taste some really old famous vintage wines in our lovely sussex barn. It was certainly, for most of us, the only opportunity to try such magnificent vintages such as the Gevrey Chambertin 1984 from Domaine Rousseau Père & Fils or the Saint-Julien of 1977 from the Château Léoville Las Cases.
Many lovely wines served with a fine three-course dinner prepared and served by LK events. The wines were introduced by Henry Butler, his depth of knowledge and lively presentation greatly contributed to the occasion. Towards the end of the evening a dozen or so wines were auctioned by a very good friend of Court Garden, Andrew Pridell, to the delight of the successful bidders; where else would you be able to bag a Château Lafite or a bottle of Dom Perignon?
This year we are going one better with a collection of very fine Clarets mostly from the 1970s and ’80s. There are more wines and more available for auction. Serious Bordeaux lovers will be examining the wine listed below.
We are sticking with the winning team and are very pleased to have persuaded Henry and Cassie to come again. Louise and Katie from LK are booked and Andrew has his bow tie and gavel ready for the auction.
All proceeds from the evening will be distributed by the Rotary Club of The Sussex Vale, distributed for local youth work.
